DGP calls upon Maoists to join mainstream

Hyderabad: Director General of Police M Mahendar Reddy here on Wednesday called upon the members of CPI (Maoist) Central Committee, politburo and party cadre to surrender and join the mainstream of the society.
Addressing a media conference, Mahendar Reddy said a comprehensive rehabilitation package would be provided to the surrendered Maoists couple Sathwaji alias Sudhakar along with his wife V Aruna alias Neelima. While Sathwaji carries Rs 25 lakh reward on his head and his wife Aruna Rs 10 lakh reward. The money would be given to the surrendered couple in due course, he said.
The surrender of the couple happened as the police contacted the family members of the Maoists. The efforts by the police for over a year yielded
results. The DHP said the Maoist Central Committee comprised of 20 members, of them 11 hailed from Telangana State and two from Andhra Pradesh. The remaining seven members came from different States, he said.
Mahendar Reddy said the surrendered Maoists had disclosed confidential information to the police during interrogation. Internal differences among the leaders and the cadre came to the light. In Eastern Regional Bureau area, the total armed underground cadre strength was about 500 while in Dandkaranya, the armed cadre strength was about 2,000 and militia strength about 7,000. However, in Sukma and Bijapur districts (of Chhattisgarh) militia is strong, he said.
Based on the decision arrived at in the 2013 Central Committee members, the DGP said, Muppala Laxman Rao alias Ganapathi had stepped down as party secretary and Nambala Keshava Rao alias Basvaraj was elected as Central Committee secretary. At present Ganapathi is a Central Committee member and moving in Maad area of Dandakaranya. Katakam Sudarshan was elected as Central Regional Bureau Secretary. Politburo comprised of seven members and Central Military Commission 4 members.
The Maoist party suffered setback and lost its base. The party cadre strength depleted and its capacity to strike fizzled out, the DGP said. In Dandakaranya too, the Maoists had failed to attract recruitment. The cadre is now confined to South Bastar region Sukma and Bijapur Districts only. Local tribes also became disillusioned with the party ideology and distanced themselves from the party as majority CC members became old, he said.
