Venkat Parsa New Delhi : A BJP President Rajnath Singh on Sunday appointed senior leader from Andhra Pradesh, Bandaru Dattatreya, as a Vice-President. Dattatreya has also been given charge of Kerala. BJP General Secretary P Muralidhar Rao has been made in-charge of Tamil Nadu, besides being in-charge of BJP Yuva Morcha. Bangaru Lakshman is made in-charge of Puducherry. Senior BJP leader Prabhat Jha has will oversee party affairs in Andhra Pradesh.
Giving a Hindutva pitch in the run-up to the General Election, Rajnath Singh appointed BJP General Secretary Amit Shah, who is facing charges in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case, as in-charge of the Hindi-heartland State of Uttar Pradesh.
BJP General Secretary Varun Gandhi, recently discharged in the hate speech case as witnesses turned hostile, has been in-charge of West Bengal. While BJP President Rajnath Singh took time even to constitute his new team of office-bearers, he had not allocated responsibilities to them, which has now been done. This assumes significance, as the BJP National Executive is slated to meet in Goa on June 8-9.
The BJP President has also set up the Programme Implementation and Coordination Committee. Headed by BJP Vice-President M A Naqvi, it has Rajnath Singh's closest aide Sudhdanshu Trivedi as member, besides, Bhupendra Yadav, Shyam Jajju and J P Nadda. Balbir Punj, holding charge of Gujarat, has been given charge of Himachal Pradesh, while an old RSS hand and Rajasthan BJP leader O P Mathur has been given charge of Gujarat. Chandan Mitra, who held charge of West Bengal, has been shifted to Odisha. BJP General Secretary Rajiv Pratap Rudy has been made incharge of Maharashtra.
In the key election-going States, J P Nadda has been given charge of Chhattisgarh, Ananth Kumar of Madhya Pradesh and Captan Singh of Rajasthan. Bhupendra Yadav and Kirit Somaiah will assist Captan Singh till the conclusion of the Rajasthan Assembly elections.
Bandaru thanks Rajnath Singh Meanwhile talking to The Hans India, Dattatreya thanked Rajnath Singh for entrusting him with a challenging job. The BJP senior leader informed that he would work for strengthening the party particular in Southern India in general and Andhra Pradesh in particular.
