24/7 operations at Vizag Airport from Nov 1
The Visakhapatnam International Airport will operate 24x7 from November 1, according to a press release issued by the vice president of the Visakhapatnam Development Council (VDC) O Naresh Kumar. Initially, the 24x7 operations would be restricted to 5 days a week till the end of December 31 and from January 1, 2014, the airport would operate all 365 days 24x7.

The president of the VDC Vishnu Kumar Raju and the vice president Kumar recently met Vizag MP and Union Minister for Commerce D Purandeswari and requested her to help the people of Vizag with airport timings. The Minister then took up the matter with the Eastern Naval Command authorities. The VDC thanked the Minister and the concerned Navy authorities for considering favourably the VDC’s request for change in airport timings. With the ‘problem’ of timings resolved, it remains to be seen how many of the airlines evince interest to operate flights from and to Vizag.
