Narsampet: Civil Supplies Corporation Chairman Peddi Sudharshan Reddy has asked the irrigation officials to carry out repair works on war-footing on SRSP distributary main canals (DBMs) in the district.

The works should be completed within one week on 38, 40 and 48 DBMs in the district under which nearly 46, 000 acres land has been stabilised. It was planned to release water from the SRSP into the canals in the next 15 days, he informed.

Sudharshan Reddy along with District Collector Prashanth Jeevan Patil held a meeting with irrigation officials, MPDOs and MPOs at Narsampet town on Tuesday to discuss preparations for the release of the water.

About 90 tmcs water would be released for the second crop of the ensuing rabi season.
There were 740 kilometres long different types of irrigation canals in the district in 101 gram panchayats of the district. The repairs works should be taken at a time across the district, he suggested.

The elected representatives should provide funds to meet financial requirement for the repairs. The works on DBM 38 were already started. Repairs could be carried out engaging MGNERGS workers, he added.

Collector Jeevan Patil said meetings were held with irrigation officials and concerned departments. Officials were directed to submit reports on the works to be executed under employment guarantee schemes.

Repairs on DBM 38, 40 and 48 could not be carried out under EGS, hence the works would be executed by irrigation department.

There was no dearth for funds. If there was any delay in the funds release the MLA constituency development funds could be used, he informed.

Later on the day speaking at awareness programme in the town on cashless transactions, Sudharshan Reddy wanted the traders and public to go for cashless transactions.

The State government supported the Centre’s demonetisation move and public should be educated on digital payment methods.

After the Centres’ decision, steps were taken to ensure 100 per cent online payments in the Civil Supplies Corporation, he added.

Narsampet RDO M Ramakrishna Reddy, DRDO project officer Y Shekar Reddy, Lead Bank manager Sai Prasad and others were present.
