Matka gamblers held

Karimnagar: Ramadagu police have arrested two persons for organising matka gambling in Karimnagar on Friday and seized Rs 20,250, a mobile and the number chart of matka gambling.

According to Police Commissioner V B Kamalasan Reddy, Syed Munna Ali alias Amzad of Ramadagu and Nelli Shravan of Nagunuru village of Karimnagar have been organising matka gambling since a few days at Ramadagu with Amaravathi of Maharashtra State as headquarters.

Expecting lot of money from 10 to 100 per cent extra for the money spent in the gambling, several poor and middleclass people would get attracted to it and getting addicted to it.

Acting over a tip off, police officials conducted raid and arrested Amzad and Shravan, he said. Cases will be booked not only against those, who organise matka business but also on those, who were involved in it, warned the Police Commissioner.

Gutka worth `11 lakh seized DCM van transporting gutka packets along with banned tobacco products from Hyderabad to Asifabad worth Rs 11 lakhs had been seized by the LMD police officials during a vehicle check up. They arrested van driver N Ramesh and owner Rizwan during the later hours of Thursday in Karimnagar.

Police Commissioner V B Kamalasan Reddy said that the gutka and tobacco products are harmful to health and the persons, who consume them, may suffer with cancer.

He directed the traders to stop selling of banned tobacco products immediately and asked them to discard or burn the old stack if they had any.

Necessary steps were being taken to make the Commissionerate limit free from gutka, matka and gudumba with the coordination of Excise and Revenue departments.

Assistant Commissioner of Police J Rama Rao, CI of Choppadandi T Lakshmi Babu, Timmapur CI Venkataramana and SIs Naresh Reddy and Krishna Reddy were present along with other police officials.
