Hanamkonda: It may not be as big as the one like the Twin Towers coming up in Hyderabad to house the Police Integrated Command and Control Centre, but the seven-level swanky edifice planned for the Warangal Police Commissionerate for which, foundation stone was laid on Monday, will also be an iconic one.

The Commissionerate, which is in dire need of an administrative building, has come a long way since it started functioning from June 12, 2015, earning name and fame by achieving the distinction of first NBW-free city in the country twice, besides introducing a host of initiatives aimed at citizen-friendly responsive policing that include Hawk Eye, Electronic Eye (CCTV surveillance), SHE teams, Blue Colts etc.

Apart from proving a point that they are not only adept in their primary duty, the Commissionerate is also in the forefront of social service and community-based programmes such as Basti Mitra, assisting the local youths living in slums in finding them a job, and ‘Senior Citizen Care and Concern’.

The Commissionerate also made its mark in promoting the State government’s flagship programmes - Mission Kakatiya, Grama Jyothy and Haritha Haram. It created a record of sorts by planting 10 lakh saplings under Haritha Haram.

Commissioner of Police G Sudheer Babu, the man who made it all possible, gave a new face to his adopted village Pembarthi under Hasanparthy mandal, which was notorious for illicit brewing of arrack once.

The Commissionerate also had a shot at the Guinness Book of World Records when it organised ‘Largest Self-defence Lesson at a Single Venue’ under Swashakti programme aimed at making women more self-reliant by imparting a few self-defence techniques to them. The Commissionerate will soon have a mounted police unit which will be used in patrolling, bandobast and ceremonial occasions.

Laying the foundation stone for the Rs 50 crore building at the Police Headquarters here on Monday, Speaker S Madhusudana Chary, Deputy Chief Minister K Srihari and Home Minister N Narsimha Reddy said that Telangana police have a proven track record and are the best in the country.

DGP Anurag Sharma said that crime rate has been decreased since the establishment of Commissionerates in the State. Sudheer Babu said that the building coming up in five acres will house Integrated Command and Control Centre, besides accommodating law and order, and traffic wings.

This apart, the building will have a facility to monitor nearly 17,000 CCTV cameras installed across its command area. It may be noted here that Commissionerate has a command area of 5,672 sq. kms with a population of around 23 lakh.
