Mancherial: Several wards and the premises of the Government Area Hospital here were waterlogged following heavy rain that lashed the town on Wednesday. The patients in labour ward were the worst sufferers.

The hospital is always full with patients from atleast three Assembly constituencies of the district. Hospital staff was busy clearing the water. With water under their beds, the patients and their attendants faced many difficulties along with the just born.

Besides the inconvenience of rain water in wards, the patients were further irked with the alleged rude behavior of the hospital staff, who told bluntly that the patients are free to go to any another hospital of their choice if they did not like the Area Hospital here. “The patients will come to the hospital to get cured of the diseases.

But the ground reality poses the danger of the patients getting afflicted with many more diseases,” Malleswari, a patient’s attendant said. The patients have been complaining of rainwater entering the hospital wards even after a minor shower. Further, there is only one toilet for both men and women.

Due to the poor maintenance, the toilet is emitting a reeking smell. The fans and lights in the ward do not function properly, a few patients complained.

They accuse the hospital staff of allotting good wards to patients from affluent sections of society and the poor have been allotted wards that are ill-equipped. The patients have been exhorting the District Collector to intervene in the matter and render better services to them.
