Vysyas up in arms against Prof K Ilaiah
Strong condemnation was poured against the political scientist, writer and dalit activist Prof Kancha Ilaiah aka Kancha Ilaiah Shepherd, over the remarks he made against Vysyas in a book he wrote.

Warangal: Strong condemnation was poured against the political scientist, writer and dalit activist Prof Kancha Ilaiah aka Kancha Ilaiah Shepherd, over the remarks he made against Vysyas in a book he wrote.
The members of Vysya community have taken to streets staging protests and burning effigies of Prof Ilaiah across Warangal district. At Warangal district headquarters, the district Arya Vysya Mahasabha and Sri Arya Vysya Vasavi Matha Parapathi Sangham leaders have staged protests.
The protesting community members demanded the State government banning of the book ‘Samajika Smugglurlu Komatollu’ (Vysyas are social smugglers) authored by Prof Ilaiah. They also wanted booking of criminal cases against him for his comments in the book that hurt the community.
The Arya Vysya Mahasabha district president Jonnala Rajeshwar Rao speaking on the occasion, said the title of the book and its contents were disparaging and mortifying to their community. Being a professor, Ilaiah should have acted in a wise manner and understood how his book would hurt the feelings of Vysyas.
The Vysyas were known to be peaceful community abd have made great contribution to Indian freedom struggle and been working for the progress of the society. The hateful comments against the community were unwarranted and entire community condemns such comments, he said.
The Parapathi Sangham leaders, who took out a protest rally, have burnt an effigy of Ilaiah in Warangal.
The sangham leaders E Ramesh, E Nagaraju, A Satyanarayana and several others submitted a memorandum to the officials at Warangal tahsildar office seeking action against Prof Ilaiah. The community contributes to the nation's exchequer and engages in charity, calling the community members as smugglers was rather a mindless act, they noted.
They said Ilaiah has also made comments against certain communities in the past. As he calls himself an intellectual, he should act in dignified manner and abstain from making abusive comments against other castes. The protests would continue until the book was banned, they asserted.
