Nizamabad: About 1.08 crore Bathukamma sarees will be distributed across the State to mark the festival, Nizamabad MP Kalvakuntla Kavitha said. She inaugurated the Telangana Girijan Welfare Gurukul Women’s Degree College at Gayatri Nagar in the town on Wednesday.

Speaking on the occasion, the MP stated that the government wanted the people to celebrate festivals like Bathukamma and Dassera happily by offering them 1.08 crore sarees on September 18 and 19. As many as 5.31 lakh sarees are to be distributed in Nizamabad district, she added.

Kavitha stated that the government was offering an assistance of Rs 75,000 to many poor people in the State through Kalyana Lakshmi scheme to perform the marriages of their daughters. 22 ST and 23 SC women Gurukul Degree Colleges were started across the State for the benefit of the poor families.

From next year, the Women Degree College would offer all courses. Referring to the efforts of Gayatri Nagar residents to locate a bus depot, Kavitha directed the Collector to take necessary steps. In-charge Collector A Ravinder Reddy spoke about the reforms being introduced by the government for the welfare of the people.

Among those present were city Mayor Akula Sujata, ZP vice-chairman Sumana Reddy, Nedcap chairman S A Ali, Corporator Murali and other district officials.
