Vinay Bhasker addressed a gathering at the inauguration of four-day Warangal Sports Festival at Jawaharlal Nehru stadium (JNS) grounds in Hanamkonda on Wednesday. Warangal was once known for its sporting talent and efforts were being made to regain the past glory in the field of sports, he noted.

Educational institutions should try to adopt students with sports talent and bring out hidden skills. The State government was laying special emphasis on Warangal after Hyderabad and has been organising regular events like Kite Festival, Kashmir Festival and others, he added.

Rajya Sabha member V Lakshmikantha Rao speaking after inaugurating the event, also wanted private and government educational institutions to give priority to sports and games. Despite having large population India was not able to win medals at international events.

The MP said that the State government has been taking special measures to promote sports and games in Telangana. He appreciated the local MLA and district sports authorities for conducting the event which helps to encourage sporting talent.

Warangal Police Commissioner G Sudheer Babu told the participants to make use of the sports festival to display their skills and reach heights in their respective sporting events.

District youth and sports development officer S Dhana Laxmi informed that competitions were being conducted in 23 sporting categories. Volleyball, basketball cricket, taekwondo, boxing, kho-kho badminton, lawn-tennis, yoga, judo, cycling, wrestling, swimming and others, she said. Warangal Urban Joint Collector S Dayanand, DPRO, DS Jagan, district tourism officer M Shivaji and others were present.
