Warangal: The Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) authorities should introspect whether they are qualified to receive Skoch Swachh Bharat Award, suggested city Congress working president Rajanala Srihari.

He said the Corporation Mayor N Narender and authorities, who are celebrating over the award, should take time to look at the sanitation conditions prevailing in the tri-cities of Warangal-Hanamkonda-Kazipet.

Expressing serious qualms over the veracity of Skoch Swachh Bharat Award given by Gurgaon based Skoch Group, he said sanitation condition in the city is pathetic. Garbage is seen everywhere on the roads and drainage system is totally failed leading to spread of viral fevers.

Speaking to presspersons in Warangal on Friday, he said the government is not making any efforts to deliver much promised underground drainage system in the city. Due to lack of proper drainage system, the roads are inundated following a few minutes of rain.

The poor sanitation conditions have been leading to spread of viral fevers like swine flu. A positive swine flu case identified at Hasanparthy under GWMC limits. The patient, called Jakkula Ravi is being treated at MGM Hospital, he informed.

Several streets in the city are lacking street lighting and the roads are in very bad shape. Alleging that drinking water supply is also irregular, he said during Congress regime water used to be supplied on alternate day. But now water is being supplied once in three days.

While expressing wonder how the Skoch Group, a corporate entity, has presented the award to GWMC, Srihari felt that the corporation is not eligible to receive the award in view of the appalling sanitation and road conditions.

He further noted that the functioning and development works under corporation are mired by corruption. There is no proper use of funds released by the Centre towards HRUDAY, AMRUT and others. The Mayor and corporation officials should be realistic in their claims on sanitation and other issues, he noted.
