Mid Manair project faced many a challenge: T Harish Rao
No other project in the country had confronted as many problems as the ongoing Mid Manair Dam (MMD) has, Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao said. Grounding the works of a lift irrigation scheme (LIS) in Vemulawada on Tuesday, he said that the government is committed to address the irrigation and drinking water problems in the State.
Vemulawada: No other project in the country had confronted as many problems as the ongoing Mid Manair Dam (MMD) has, Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao said. Grounding the works of a lift irrigation scheme (LIS) in Vemulawada on Tuesday, he said that the government is committed to address the irrigation and drinking water problems in the State.
“Mitigating the water problem of the temple town that attracts large number of devotees every day is an imperative need. However, it’s been on the cards for a long time, the LIS aimed at filling the Gudi Cheruvu (tank) lifting waters from the MMD foreshore to a height of 30 meters coming up at an estimated cost of Rs 20 crore will suffice the water needs of the temple town,” Harish said.
He said that in addition to Rs 100 crore allocated for the Sri Raja Rajeshwara Swamy temple development, the government earmarked another Rs 100 crore to improve the facilities in the town. This apart, the government also gave Rs 150 crore for the development of roads. In the next three months, the households of temple town will get drinking water through Mission Bhagiratha.
Referring to the progress of MMD works, the Minister said that the TRS government achieved it in just three years, which the Congress failed to make a mark in its decade-old rule. All the displaced under the project will be provided a fair deal, he said, stating that district administration itself is reaching out the oustees and paying them.
So far, the TRS government spent Rs 850 crore on MMD, he added. “By improving infrastructure in State-run hospitals, the government has brought in a positive change in providing healthcare to people,” Harish said, referring to the private hospital managements’ unscrupulous practices in fleecing the people.
Especially private hospitals in Sircilla, Vemulawada and Siddipet are notorious in fleecing the people, he added. MP B Vinod Kumar, Vemulawada MLA Chennamaneni Ramesh and District Collector Krishna Bhaskar were among others present.
