Jagtial: By transforming himself into Maharshi, Adi Kavi Valmiki had written the epic “Ramayana’ and handed over for later generations, said MLA T Jeevan Reddy.

The birth anniversary of Maharshi Valmiki was observed on a grand note by garlanding his photo at Indian Medical Association hall here on Thursday.

Jeevan Reddy, the chief guest at the programme, said that Valmiki, who lead a life of common man during his childhood living in forests, had transformed himself into Maharshi and wrote Ramayana.

Through his writings, he explained how honest a man should be along with appreciating the duties of a king, father, mother, brother and son as illustrated by him in Ramayana.

Importance must be given to the people, who belong to Valmiki and Boya castes in education and employment along with adding them in ST category.

Many people, who belong to Valmiki and Boya castes, have participated in separate Telangana movement. The government must introduce separate welfare schemes for these sections of people, the MLA suggested.

Rural Development Officer Narendar, Valmiki Association District President Anjaiah, MPP Gangam Mahesh, BC Welfare Society District President Gajula Nagaraju, Padmashali Sangham District President S Jitendar, Bandi Shankar and P Mallesh were present along with others.
