Hanamkonda: The residents of Ramnagar colony in Hanamkonda have demanded the GWMC officials here on Tuesday to act against a car service centre located in the residential area as it was causing pollution in the area.
Several residents in the area have lodged complaints with the Municipal Commissioner and the district administration a few months back. But no action was taken against the service centre so far as some of the lower ranked officials were in connivance with the service centre owner, the residents alleged.
Speaking to the media here on Tuesday, residents, M Shankaraiah, Ramachander Rao, A Ramesh and Kamal Lad said that the service centre should have been setup in an industrial zone as per the government norms. But it was being run in their residential lay out in violation against the corporation rules, they lamented.
Following complaints by the locals, the Municipal Commissioner and the District Collector directed the health officer of the GWMC to look into the issue and close down the service centre. Notices were also served to the service centre owner and the plot owner. However, the centre was not closed yet.
Antoher resident Kamal Lad complained that the service centre in the area was being polluted as effluents were being released into the drains. The use of chemicals and paints at the centre was leading unhygienic conditions besides causing sound pollution, he added. He said that several residents were suffering from allergies.
The residents said that the land belonged to Dr. Girija and Dr. VVN Sastry and they wondered as to how being doctors, they could lease the land to a car service centre in a residential area. They also wondered as to how the officials issued a license to set up the servicing centre.
They said that the health officer of the municipal corporation served a notice for the first time to the owner of the MM Motors service centre Shaik Khaleel and the plot owners on June 19 and a final notice has been served on them on July 6 asking to remove the service centre within three days. residents said.
Although five months have passed, the sanitary inspector Yadaiah who was directed to get the car service centre removed has failed to comply with the orders by higher ups, the residents alleged.
