Hanamkonda: The members of different unions of Andhra Pradesh Grameena Vikas Bank (APGVB) have staged a massive dharna here, demanding regularisation of the services of temporary workers serving the bank.

The ABGVB Employees Union, ABGVB Officers Association and APGVB Temporary Workers Union leaders and members have taken part in the protest staged at the bank’s head office in Hanamkonda on Wednesday.

The dharna was staged at as part of a nation-wide protest called by All India Regional Rural Banks Employees Association (AIRRBEA). The employees and officers of 56 Regional Rural Banks (RRB) have joined the protest on the day.

Speaking to presspersons, the AP Telangana RRBEA president B Ravikanth, its vice-president K Bhikshamaiah, the Officers Association president T Rajaiah and others have said there were nearly 300 temporary workers serving at 768 branches in 11 regional centres.

But they were deprived of minimum wages, benefits like bonus, PF, ESI, medical leave, gratuity, group insurance and others, which were mandatory under the Minimum Wages Act 1948. The bank management must extend all such benefits to the temporary workers with immediate effect, they demanded.

The process of outsourcing must be withdrawn and the provisions of Minimum Wages Act should be implemented as prescribed by the NABARD. The management must do away with unfair labour practices in wage payment to daily waged, casual and contractual workers who were rendering valuable services. The existing vacancies of office attendants must be filled up forthwith, they added.

Ravikanth stated that there were nearly 15,000 temporary workers working in RRBs across the nation for more than 15 years. The Central government should initiate measures to regularise their services. Otherwise a massive agitation would be staged before Parliament in December month, he warned.

Leaders DVSAN Raju, M Gopal Naik, Sanjeeva Rao, AJP Raj, Ram Babu, Govarthan, Prasad Reddy, Moses, Nagaraju and others were present.
