Midwifery course introduced in Karimnagar govt hospital
The Midwives will play an active role in reducing surgeries in government hospitals along with increasing institutional deliveries, observed the Health Minister, Dr C Laxma Reddy.

Along with MP Boinapalli Vinod Kumar, the Minister had launched the Midwifery course at Mother and Child Health Care Centre in Karimnagar on Thursday.
Speaking on the occasion, Laxma Reddy said that the Central government had gave permission to start Midwifery course in hospitals. No other State took the initiation to start the course. First time in the country the Midwifery course had been started in Karimnagar, he stated.
Earlier, aayas used to perform deliveries in unhygienic conditions. By giving training to nurses through Midwifery course, more than 80 per cent of institutional deliveries can be performed in government hospitals under the doctors’ supervision.
Training will be given to about 30 members for one and half year at this centre. One year theory classes and six months practicals will be conducted, informed the health Minister.
The government is striving hard for providing better health services to the people by introducing various schemes. The number of deliveries in government hospitals has been increased after the introduction of KCR Kit. The hospital staff and health officials are providing services to the patients round-the-clock.
The government had announced incentives of Rs 500 to doctors, Rs 500 to nurses and Rs 500 to hospitals for providing better services.
The media persons also must encourage the doctors by writing about their best services in the paper,s which will give them new enthusiasm to work further better, urged the Minister.
Karimnagar MP B Vinod Kumar said that it is a revolutionary step to start Midwifery course in Karimnagar, which will create a trend in the medical and health sector along with standing an example for other states.
The nurses after completing of Midwifery course, will give necessary suggestions, advices and precautions to be taken for a normal delivery, he informed.
Students, who have completed B Sc Nursing Course (three years), are eligible to apply for the Midwifery course, at Mother and Child Health Care Centre in Karimnagar. Necessary steps would be taken to provide permanent jobs in the government hospitals to the students after successful completion of the course, he added.
Later, the Health Minister interacted with the patients and inquired about the services provided to them in the hospital.
Zilla Parishad Chairperson Tula Uma, Commissioner of Medical and Health Department Vakati Karuna, MLC Naradasu Lakshman Rao, MLA Gangula Kamalakar, District Collector Sarfaraz Ahmed, City Mayor Ravinder Singh, representatives of UNESCO Dr Sanjay, Chairman of Libraries Corporation Anugu Ravinder Reddy, Hospital Superintendent Dr Suhasini and Medical and Health Officer Dr Rajesham were present along with others.
