Karimnagar: TPCC vice-president and former MP Ponnam Prabhakar has on Thursday accused the ruling TRS government for obstructing the Congress cadres from participating in the - ‘Chalo Assembly’ protest - on Friday (October 27). It may be noted here that Congress has given a call for Chalo Assembly rally on the first day of the Assembly session in protest against the State government’s indifferent attitude towards the farmers.

The government is trying to scuttle the protest by using the police force, he alleged in a statement here on Thursday.

He said that the government, which failed to waive the crop loans, further burdened the farmers by withdrawing the 6 per cent rebate on long term loans. The passbooks are still with the bankers, he added. “There was no attempt to provide special budget for the issuance of fresh crop loans,” Prabhakar said, accusing the government of being insensitive towards farmers’ hardships.

He said that the government failed to help cotton farmers who have suffered losses due to recent heavy rainfall. Stating that CCI was not purchasing the crop citing high moisture content, he demanded the government to rescue the cotton farmers.

Prabhakar said that the government would bite the dust if it continues to throttle the voice of the Opposition which was fighting for the cause of people’s welfare.
