Karimnagar: Several measures were taken to curb the growth of mosquito population and to eradicate them, said District Medical and Health Officer (DM&HO) Dr A Rajesham.

The DM&HO along with the City Mayor Ravinder Singh released about 1,500 gambusia fishes in the ponds present across Karimnagar on Friday.

Speaking on the occasion, the DM&HO said controlling mosquito population is a vital public health practice and will reduce the damage they cause to human health.

Several other steps were also taken to keep a check on the growth of mosquito population keeping in view of public health due to the cold conditions that may prevail in coming up days, he added.

City Municipal Commissioner Shashank, Malaria Control Officer B Rajgopal Rao, G Mahendar Reddy, Malaria Supervisor M Ramanatham and the staff members of Health Department G Ravindranath, Masam Srinivas, P Satyanarayana and Narsingh Rao were present along with others.
