Adilabad: The Adilabad police on Monday initiated Student Police Cadet (SPC) enrolling 73 students from Adilabad division and 44 from Utnoor division. The selection of students was based on physical fitness and written tests.

Adilabad has become the first in Telangana State to introduce SPC, a youth development initiative which the Ministry of Home Affairs is keen to promote all across the country.

The aim of the programme is to train and encourage youth to develop respect for law and practice abiding by law as a way of life.

The department will give training to these students on the lines of National Cadet Corps (NCC). The module includes physical training (outdoor), study classes (indoor), field visits, district and State-level camps, and practical training projects.

These students will be given two sets of uniforms, one for physical training and the other for parade, besides SPC manual.

Stating that SPC will create a well-disciplined committed young generation, Adilabad Superintendent of Police M Srinivas told The Hans India: “The training schedule starting with once a weekly workout that includes drill, march past, salute etc will be finalised.”

He said that all the students enrolled as the Cadets will be given identity cards and uniforms. The trained students will be used as volunteers if required by the authorities.
