Peddapalli: Marking the World Disabled Day (December 3), sports and games competitions for the disabled present across the district took off at the Collectorate grounds here on Monday. In-charge District Revenue Officer (DRO) Ashok Kumar had inaugurated the competitions, organised by Women, Child, Disabled and Aged persons department.

Speaking on the occasion, the in-charge DRO said that the disabled can reach higher position in their lives with self-confidence and firm determination. Several events like running, chess, caroms, shot-put and painting were conducted for the disabled, in which about 300 were expected to participate. The winners in these district-level competitions will be sent to participate in the State-level competitions that will be held in Hyderabad from November 27 to 29, the in-charge DRO informed.

He ordered the officials of Women and Child welfare department to provide all facilities like food and drinking water for the disabled, who are participating in sports and games competitions coming from distant places, and not to create any inconvenience to them. District Welfare Officer Padmavathi, District Panchayat Raj Officer Chandraprakash Reddy, District Agriculture Officer Thirumal Prasad and Superintendent Srinivas were present along with others.
