In a significant achievement, the district police have arrested six underground activists of CPI (ML) New Democracy and recovered five fire arms, ammunition, bank account passbook and revolutionary literature.
Mahabubabad: In a significant achievement, the district police have arrested six underground activists of CPI (ML) New Democracy and recovered five fire arms, ammunition, bank account passbook and revolutionary literature.
The Superintendent of Police N Koti Reddy produced the arrested activists before the media at Mahabubabad on Friday. He informed that a self-loading rifle (SLR), a Springfield rifle, a 8 MM rifle, a .303 single shot rifle, and one 9MM pistol were recovered along with 53 different live rounds of ammunition.
The arrested were identified as Kothaguda area dalam commander J Sammaiah alias Jampanna, Gangaram dalam area commander S Papa Rao alias Pradeep, dalam members G Kranthi Kumar alias KK, B Vinod alias Samba Rao, N Ashok alias Veeraswamy, and M Karnakar Jampanna was carrying Springfield rifle while Pradeep was carrying SLR.
The SP revealed they have received a tip off about the movements of New Democracy Suryam dalam that camped at Lakshmipuram of Kothaguda mandal to extort money from local contractors. Gudur Circle Inspector B Ramesh and Kothaguda Sub-Inspector A Sathish were directed to comb the area. A team of 20 police personnel led by the CI, Ramesh conducted search operations on Thursday night.
While the team was returning during the early hours on Friday, they came across the New Democracy (Pedda Chandra Group) Mahabubabad secretary Suryam accompanied by Sammaiah and Pradeep. The police team surrounded them, asking them to surrender. Suryam alias Soma Bhaskar and a dalam member S Madhu escaped, while the police managed to arrest the remaining six naxal activists along with their kit bags, the SP said.
The New Democracy dalams operating in Pakhal, Kothaguda, Gudur and Gangaram areas were resorting to extortion of money from local contractors. Some of the members were also involved in exchange of fire with the police.
Several criminal cases were booked against them along with cases under AP Forests Act 1963 and Wild Life (Protection) Act at Kothaguda police station. The police would act strict against underground dalam members and those helped them, he added.
The SP, Koti Reddy called upon the escaped naxal activists Suryam and Madhu to surrender before the police while cautioning that severe action would taken against those threatening public and committing extortion at the gun point.
He appreciated CI Ramesh, SI Sathish and the police team for their daring act of arresting the armed naxal activists adding that they would soon be given roper rewards.
