Mahabubabad: Stating that the State government has sanctioned Rs 7 lakh with 40 per cent subsidy for the maintenance of fish pond; Rs 1.5 lakh with 40 per cent subsidy for fish culture; and Rs 25 lakh per one unit for cage culture with 40 per cent subsidy, District Collector Dr Preethi Meena suggested the fishermen to use the government schemes for their economic growth.

She attended as a chief guest at the celebrations of Matsya Vikasa Pakshotsvalu, organised by the fishermen societies at the Collectorate Conference hall in Mahabubabad on Thursday.Speaking on the occasion, the Collector said that about 4.2 crores of fishlings were released in about 994 tanks present across the district. She said that fishermen must be encouraged to do cage culture by creating awareness among them about it.

“Orders are issued to Rural Development Officer for the establishment of fish market and cold storages at district head-quarters. District Fisheries department officer and tahsildar were ordered to submit proposals for funds requirement for constructing building for fishermen society in the district after identifying a suitable place,” she said.

Joint-Collector Damodar Reddy, District Forest Officer Anjaneya Swamy, Agricultural Scientist Ajay, Fishermen Society State secretary Godugu Srinivas, district president Sammaiah, Venkanna and Sahadev were present along with others.
