Karimnagar: Modern facilities would be provided to all the libraries present across the State to regain their lost glory, Finance Minister Eatala Rajender assured. He was the chief guest at the closing ceremony of the 50th National Library Week at TNGO’s function hall here on Monday.

Anugu Ravinder Reddy, the Chairman of Libraries department, had organised the celebrations from November 14 to 20. After observing the paintings and drawings drawn by the students of various educational institutions marking the occasion, the Minister said libraries, the knowledge centres, are highly helpful for shaping the younger citizens to transform themselves into great personalities.

Vast information about almost everything is available in libraries. Many great persons like Suravaram Pratap Reddy and Lakshman Rao participated in the Library movement called ‘Old is Gold’ to restore the past glory for libraries and to motivate the people.

Many children, who are studying in corporate educational institutions, are becoming bookworms but without proper knowledge about society and without any recreational activities. Studying means not scoring of marks alone, one must be perfect in all fields, the Minister pointed out.

Now-a-days, students are visiting libraries to read books meant for preparing competitive examinations. But there are thousands of books in libraries that will give great knowledge. Students make use of libraries in a proper way by visiting the libraries regularly and should spend at least few hours in a day for reading the books, Eatala suggested.

Later, the Finance Minister handed over prizes to the students, who won in the competitions conducted as part of weeklong celebrations of National Library Week.

MLC Naradasu Lakshman Rao, Irrigation department Chairman Eda Shankar Reddy, City Mayor Ravinder Reddy, ZP Chairperson Tula Uma, MPP Latha and Library department Secretary Raju were present along with others.
