Karimnagar: Mayor Sardar Ravinder Singh and zilla parishad chairperson Tula Uma stressed the importance of protecting and promoting Telugu. Taking part in the Ashtavadhanam, a literary programme, in the run up to World Telugu Conference, scheduled to be held from December 15 to 19 in Hyderabad, here on Thursday, Singh said that there is an urgent need for literary organisations to propagate the sweetness of the Telugu language.

“Be it the IAS toppers or any other, they had to start learning from their mother language,” he said. Stating that upcoming generations are more inclined towards English, Tula Uma explained the need for inculcating interest in Telugu language. “In a bid to promote the Telugu language, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao is organising the World Telugu Conference in Hyderabad, besides implementing it in the administrative transactions,” Uma said.

District collector Sarfaraz Ahmad said that though English is necessary in academic growth, one should not forget their mother language. There was an imperative need to set right the trend, he added. Municipal Commissioner Shashank said that onus is on literary organisations and parents to protect the Telugu language.

Later, the Ashtavadhanam programme captivated the audience. A Bhanu Prakash Avadhani assumed the role of Avadhani while Venu Sri, Nandi Srinivas, Marripelly Srinivas, Gajula Ravinder, Vithal Sharma, Kukatla Thirupathi, GV Krishna Murthy and Raja Rammohan Sharma played their role as Vruschikulu. The programme was presided over by Dr Dingari Narahari Acharya. KS Anantacharya and Madishetty Gopal were coordinators. MLC Naradasu Laxman Rao felicitated the writers and poets on the occasion.
