Karimnagar: Stern action will be taken against those officials neglecting the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS), said Karimnagar District Collector Sarfaraz Ahmad. In a review meeting held at the Collectorate here on Thursday, he expressed unhappiness over the implementation of the NREGS.

“The very concept of the NREGS is to ensure 100 days of employment to rural folk willing to do unskilled manual work,” the collector said, directing the officials to pull up their socks to implement the scheme.

He instructed the officials to identify the works in rural areas so that the district administration could accord permission. The officials should focus on farm ponds, compost pits, water harvesting pits, kitchen sheds in schools, dumping yards, graveyards etc. to carry those works under the NREGS.

Referring to the pending NREGS bills, he instructed the officials to ensure payment to workers without any delay. He also directed the officials to link bank accounts of the workers with their Aadhaar numbers to pay their wages online. The geo-tagging of saplings planted under Haritha Haram programme is mandatory, he said. DRDO Venkateshwar Rao and other officials were present.
