Mancherial: The residents of Gopalawada area in the town staged a dharna in front of the Collectorate here on Monday, demanding the authorities widening of the 100-feet bypass road as per 1977 regulations. They urged the Ddistrict Collector for his intervention in to the issue.

They alleged that some ruling party leaders and realtors were trying to enforce new regulations to encroach our lands. If the roads were to be widened as per the new regulations, they would have to suffer heavy losses.

In 1977, the municipal authorities erected a fence on both sides of the road, indicating the road width as 100 feet. Using the fence as a reference, realtors left 100 feet and developed plots for which municipal authorities gave green signal to construct houses. The authorities also gave LRS and VRS certificates.

The people are worried over losing houses if the new plan is implemented. They say it would be difficult for them to construct new houses as they are poor.
