Peddapalli: The government was taking all measures for the development of disabled people in the State, informed District in-charge Collector S Prabhakar Reddy. He attended as the chief guest at the celebrations organised by the district welfare department, marking World Disabled Day, here at a private function hall here on Tuesday and distributed prizes to the winners of sports and games competitions organised earlier.

Speaking on the occasion, the In-charge Collector stated the government is sanctioning Rs 1,500 under Asara scheme for the disabled. About 12,723 disabled are getting benefit through Asara scheme in the district. By conducting Sadaran Camp earlier in the district, sadaram certificates are issued to about 1,782 disabled in the district, he informed.

For the development of the disabled, the government has allotted three per cent reservations and many voluntary organisations are striving hard to uplift the disabled along with the Youth for Jobs Foundation, which is conducting free training camps and providing employment opportunities for the disabled, he pointed.

Sadaram camp will be organised on every third Saturday of the month from January next year for the benefit of the disabled along with organising special camps on December 14 and 15.

The Regional Coordinator of the Welfare department Mula Vijay Reddy said disability is just a physical problem, but they are mentally will be very strong. By utilising the welfare schemes provided for them by the government, the disabled must reach higher positions. District in-charge DRDO Prem Kumar, District Welfare Officer Padmavathi, District Education Officer Venkateshwar Rao, Chief Planning Officer K Ravinder, the representatives of Mano Chethana Voluntary organisation and Youth for Jobs foundation were present along with others.
