Asifabad: District Collector Champalal advised students to strive hard to become future scientists of the country. He, along with MLA Kova Lakshmi, had inaugurated 45th Jawaharlal Nehru district-level Science Fair at St Mary’s High School here on Tuesday.

Addressing the gathering, he called upon the students to devise tools useful to society and move ahead with new and novel thinking, as technology will play a key role in future. In the days to come, voice command technology is likely to be ushered in, he stated. The MLA, K Lakshmi, said the State government is focusing attention on education by setting up Gurukul institutions for BCs and Minorities. She assured that soon a government degree college and a polytechnic would be opened in the district.

The legislator advised the students to bring good name to their parents and teachers by rising to top levels in their chosen fields. She said cash prizes of Rs 10,016, Rs 5,016 and Rs 3,000 would be awarded to the meritorious participants in the fair. ‘It is a matter of pride that such science fair is being organised on a large scale for the first time in the district,’ Lakshmi stated.

District Education Officer Rafeeq pointed out such science fairs help unearth hidden talents of students and are of “great utility value”. Later, the Collector and the MLA visited each stall in the fair. Among those present were Market Committee Chairman Gandham Srinivas and District Science Officer Katakam Madhukar.
