Sisters Kanaka Mahalashmi and Kalyanalakshmi of Rameshwarpalli village in Bhiknur mandal of Kamareddy district, who secured second and fourth places in the recently organised 26th international memory contest in China, brought glory to the country. They worked hard for seven years to achieve their goal.

The girls’ father is Balachandram, a clerk and mother is Rajamani, is a beedi worker. After realising their talent, Balachandram encouraged his daughters in their area of interest. As a result, they fared very well in the national-level memory contests. The international contest was conducted in Shanjan city from December 6 to 8.

Jayasimha of World Memory Sport Council of India lead the Indian team of 17. As many as 302 from 103 countries had participated in the contest. Teams from China, Mangolia and Malaysia bagged the first, second and third places. The Indian team finished fourth. Macau was placed fifth.
