Sircilla: The residents of Kolanoor, a non-descript village under Konaraopet mandal, on Monday come up with an awe-inspiring New Year resolution that inculcates nationalist fervour among the people.

Henceforth, the villagers come what may stop their activity to pay respects to national anthem – Jana Mana Gana – as it played on loudspeakers every morning at 8. The villagers will be alerted 10 minutes ahead of playing national anthem with a siren.

The initiative, which actually the brainchild of Jammikunta Inspector of Police P Prashanth Reddy, is being implemented successfully in Jammikunta town of Karimnagar district, since August 15, 2017. Inspired by this, Kolanoor sarpanch Md Abdul Rashid, in coordination with Rajanna-Sircilla district Public Relation Officer Mamindla Dasharatham, wanted to implement the initiative.

District Collector Krishna Bhaskar, who launched the programme by hoisting the national flag at Kolanoor Gram Panchayat Office, said: “It’s time for the people to question themselves what they can do for the country instead of querying what the country is doing for them.” He said that by spreading patriotism through the initiative, Kolanoor will stand as a beacon to other villages. The administration is ready to support such kind of initiatives that inculcate harmony among the people, he assured.

District Libraries Chairman A Shankaraiah heaped praise on the villagers for unitedly coming forward to support the initiative. Mamindla Dasharatham said: “The 52-second national anthem not only instils patriotism but also changes the mindset of those undisciplined.”

Sarpanch Abdul Rashid said that the programme would create a legacy that needs to be passed on to future generations. This is one way that we will pay our respects to those great people who sacrificed their lives to free the nation from the clutches of British.

The sarpanches of Martakapet and Suddala who participated in the programme expressed that they too will follow the suit of Kolanoor shortly. DRO Shyam Prasad Lal and MPP Laxmi were among scores of locals and neighbouring villages present.
