Warangal: The State government has decided to allocate two per cent of the double bedroom houses being constructed in Telangana to ex-servicemen, informed Rajya Sabha member V Lakshmikantha Rao.

He addressed a gathering of ex-servicemen at ‘Sainik Samkshema Sabha’ held at Warangal Institute of Medical Sciences in Warangal on Thursday. It was conducted by Telangana and Andhra Sub-Area (TASA) in association with the State Sainik Welfare Department and NCC Directorate.

Though many retired personnel across the county were awaiting land for housing, in Telangana the Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao came forward offering double bedroom housing to the ex-servicemen in all districts, Lakshmikantha Rao said.

The CM has also made a statement in State Assembly extending all possible support to the ex-servicemen and it shows the State government’s commitment towards their welfare, he said while appreciating the initiatives of the TASA in arranging mobile medical camps for ex-servicemen.

General Officer Commanding, TASA, Major General, N Srinivas Rao said they have started special Ex-servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS) mobile medical camps for the benefit of elderly ex-servicemen who might face trouble reaching the ECHS clinics located far away.

He said that the ECH Scheme has been providing high quality treatment to veterans and their dependents and requested all retired service personnel to register in ECHS to avail the medical facilities. Similar Sabhas would be organised in all districts of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh in a phased manner.

The Samkshema Sabhas also focus on issues and grievances of retired service personnel and try to address them and to create awareness on latest initiatives of Ministry of Defence and state governments extended to them, Srinivas Rao said.

Sainik Welfare Department Director Col P Ramesh Kumar urged the ex-servicemen to attend the camps to receive required assistance from the army. The personnel would get help related to issues like correction of records, approval of pension documents and other subsidies available for them.

About 200 personnel were treated and provided medicines on the spot. Arrangement for CSD Canteen was also made ensuring supply of essential items. Over 500 ex-servicemen and their families attended the event. Regional Sainik Welfare Officer T Vanaja and others were present.
