Karimnagar: It is apparent that Telangana will become first child-friendly State in the country, Nobel laureate Kailash Satyarthi said on his maiden visit to Karimnagar on Wednesday.

Taking part in the Bala Mitra Sadassu, Satyarthi, who is advocating for child-friendly country, stressed on the need for achieving a world where all children are free, safe, educated and healthy so that they could realise their potential.
“People should oppose employing child labour,” he said, referring to child rights.

It seems like Telangana is on the right path, he said, referring to the State government’s flagship programmes such as Kalyana Laxmi, Shadi Mubarak etc. These initiatives could bring in a huge change, he added. Satyarthi said that he had seen several schools in the country where basic amenities are far cry.

Neither they have infrastructure, nor they have sufficient staff to impart quality education to the children, he said. It is high time that all the State governments need to focus on health, education and nutrition and allocate sufficient funds to address these problems, the Nobel laureate said.

Finance Minister Eatala Rajender said that former President A P J Abdul Kalam and Satyarthi are the two persons who loved children immensely and envisioned child-friendly ambience across the country. He said that Telangana is the only State in the country to establish more than 500 residential schools to provide quality education to poor students. The government is spending Rs 1.05 lakh on each student, he added.

Karimnagar MP B Vinod Kumar said Satyarthi is the only person who dedicated his life for the children. “His (Satyarthi) mission is to end violence against children, slavery and child labour,” he added.

Zilla parishad chairperson Tula Uma told the children to take Satyarthi as their idol. District Collector Sarfaraz Ahmad, Karimnagar MLA Gangula Kamalakar, MLC Naradasu Laxman Rao and Mayor Sardar Ravinder Singh also hailed Satyarthi on the occasion.

Earlier, Satyarthi interacted with the students who gathered in huge numbers.
