No medical kits for anganwadi centres for two years
As the government reportedly stopped supplying medical kits to anganwadi centres for the last two years, the children at these centres are facing problems.
Kohagudem: As the government reportedly stopped supplying medical kits to anganwadi centres for the last two years, the children at these centres are facing problems.
The teachers at the anganwadi centres have to call the parents of the children, whenever they are injured, even for small injuries and send them for treatment.
If only the kits are available, the teachers can give primary treatment to the children, without bothering their parents.
There are about 2,060 anganwadi centres – 626 main centres and 1,434 mini centres – in the district.
As many as 754 centres have been running in own buildings and the remaining are running in rented buildings.
There are about 32,389 children aged between six months to three years, and 24,888 children aged between three to six years.
These centres are supplying nutritious food to about 16,174 pregnant and post-pregnant women.
It was said that these centres had received medical kits in 2015 and after that the government hadn’t released a single kit to these centres.
For providing health kits to the anganwadi centres, the Central government has provided 60 per cent of the funds and the State government has provided the remaining funds.
CITU leader AJ Ramesh alleged that the government has failed to supply medical kits to the district for the last two years.
Speaking to The Hans India, he said that the government had allocated Rs 17 lakhs funds for distributing medical kits in the district. But, he criticised that the officer concerned was negligent in implementing the scheme.
Ramesh said that when they questioned the officer concerned about the kits, he (the officer) replied that none was quoting bid for the tender.
The CITU leader appealed to the government to resume supply of medical kits to anganwadi centres as several pregnant and post-pregnant women and children are facing several problems due to lack of these kits. He requested to release the kits immediately to all the centres in the district.
When The Hans India reported contacted, Integrated Child Development Scheme Project Director Laxmi Bhai said the medical kits will be distributed within 15 days to all the centres in the district.
