SCCL thermal unit contract staff seeks service regularisation

Mancherial: Demanding regularisation of contract workers’ services of SSCL thermal power plant, two of the workers on Wednesday climbed a cell phone signal tower here to draw public attention to their problem.

Meanwhile, on account of scheduling a meeting to gather public opinion for the third unit of the SCCL thermal power plant on Wednesday, the police on Tuesday night ‘arrested’ some of the contract workers and lodged them in police station here.

In support of the demonstrating contract workers, several persons, who alienated their lands for the thermal unit and contract workers, staged a sit-on dharna on the road. Police were deployed in strength and tried to wean them away, but the protesters did not relent.

The SCCL management promised jobs to all the displaced families and ignored the protest programme of the contract workers, who have been demonstrating for the past two days.

Only some of the displaced persons got job as contract workers. Even after the thermal units going on stream for the past two years, the SCCL management did not provide jobs on full scale.

The protesters relented when the Revenue Divisional Officer Srinivas and several SCCL management representatives assured justice to them within a week.
