Book Truck to help needy
An initiative akin to that of ‘Wall of Kindness’, where people can leave clothes and other items, which can be taken by those in most need of it, that recently swept the nation, here is another inspiring and innovative charity drive enabling people to help the needy students
Warangal: An initiative akin to that of ‘Wall of Kindness’, where people can leave clothes and other items, which can be taken by those in most need of it, that recently swept the nation, here is another inspiring and innovative charity drive enabling people to help the needy students. This time around the notion is to help those needy children, who are less fortunate to afford textbooks, notebooks, pens, pencils etc.
Invariably, every household will have books lying in back of their shelves and storerooms without actually being utilised for a long time and unguaranteed of it happening in the future as well. It’s time for the people to clear those shelves and storerooms and to collect them the Book Truck, a vehicle set in motion by the Red FM 93.5Mhz, a broadcasting enterprise of the Sun Group, one of the country’s largest media conglomerate, is ready in your city.
The Red FM, which conceptualised the idea of Book Truck as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), is ready to collect the study material – used and new – from the donors until March 16.
After collecting these materials, the FM will segregate the books curriculum-wise and distribute them to poor students. The books other than academics such as autobiographies, inspirational books, general knowledge books etc. will be given to school libraries where students can utilise them.
Speaking to The Hans India, Sahitya Akademi award winner and novelist Ampasayya Naveen, who inaugurated the Book Truck, said: “This kind of initiatives spread the importance of education. It also creates a literary sense among the deprived sections who can’t afford to buy books.” We have to bear in mind that the ultimate is to develop a knowledge-based society, he said, commending the Red FM for its initiative.
Red FM Warangal Station In-charge MA Haq said: “This is nothing but giving back something to society. The Book Truck concept was a huge success in Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam and Rajamahendravaram. After Warangal, the initiative will be taken to other two stations – Tirupati and Vijayawada where we have FM Stations.”
Radio Jockey Vicky said: “As of now we are getting an overwhelming response. People willing to help the poor children call the Book Truck on 99590 19520 and we will pick up gleefully what they donate. Those interested can walk straight into the Red FM edifice located opposite Subedari Post Office to handover the material personally.” Last week, the drive succeeded in collecting books worth around Rs 3 lakh, he added.
It may be mentioned here that Red FM also supplied drinking water bottles free of cost to people in last summer in a bid to send a message that people too follow the gesture by quenching the thirst of others.
