Warangal: National Institute of Technology, Warangal (NITW) administration expelled five students while suspending two others in connection with the recent group fight of students on the campus. It might be recalled that on March 11, during the final day of cultural fest ‘Springspree-18’, a group of M Sc students have brutally beaten up a B Tech (Civil) final year student Jaipreeth Singh using sharp weapons and iron rods inflicting bleeding injuries on him.

Acting on the Enquiry Committee report and findings of the Deans’ Committee constituted to investigate the clash, the disciplinary action was initiated with due approval of the institute director Prof NV Ramana Rao, said an order issued by the in-charge registrar Prof K Laxma Reddy here on Friday.

M Sc (Tech), IV semester students Dheeraj Kumar and Amit Yadav, M Sc (Chemistry) II semester students Pankaj Kumar, Aliwarish and Nitesh Kumar were expelled from the campus. MSc (Applied Mathematics) IV semester student Ravikanth and M Sc (Tech) engineering physics VI semester student Rohit Kumar were suspended from the campus for a period of two years with immediate effect.

The action was taken under subsection (iii) of section IV of Students’ Conduct and Disciplinary Code annexed to PG (Science and Management) rules and regulations of the institute. Expulsion was ordered under section 3(II) (V) of the rules while suspension under section 3(II) (ii) of the rules.

Apart from the above punishment, the institute campus including academic, administrative and hostel areas were declared out of bounds for the above students. This punishment was in addition to the criminal proceedings initiated against them at Kazipet police station, the registrar added.
