Karimnagar: As many as 110 persons were caught in the special drunk and drive checking, conducted from 10 pm to 12 pm on Tuesday in Karimnagar.
About 500 police personnel belonging to 18 police stations under the commissionerate limits conducted special drunk and drive operation under the supervision of Commissioner of Police VB Kamalasan Reddy.
They seized 78 vehicles, which do not have proper documents and imposed penalty of Rs 22,200. Speaking on this occasion, the Commissioner said of late drunk and drive cases are reducing as the public were aware of drunk and drive inspections which are conducted vigorously in the recent times.
Drink driving is the main reason for most of the road accidents while negligence and over-speed are other reasons. For the safety of the people and to prevent road accidents, drunk and drive operations were being conducted under the commissionerate limits, the Commissioner said. In the coming up days, drunk and drive operation will be conducted during day time also, he added.
