Warangal: The TRS government was imposing an undeclared state of emergency in Telangana acting in an autocratic manner, alleged Warangal Urban BJP district president Rao Padma.

She accused the government for suppressing the voice of Opposition parties by resorting to arrests whenever they plan agitations on public issues. She strongly condemned arrests of BJP workers in the wake of ‘Chalo Assembly’ protest planned on Friday in Hyderabad by the party Kisan Morcha.

Arresting the BJP workers at village, mandal and district level speaks volumes about the government’s anti-people attitude. It was wrong that the government instead of addressing the farmers’ issues was arresting the party workers for fighting for the farmers, Padma told presspersons.

She, along with several party leaders were detained by the police at their party office in Hanamkonda on Thursday night. As many as 200 party workers and leaders were arrested in Warangal Urban District alone while hundreds of workers arrested or bound over across erstwhile Warangal district, she added.

The arrested workers were lodged at police stations at Mills Colony, Mattewada, Hanamkonda, Subedari, Kazipet, Hasanparthy, Kamalapur, Elkaturthy, Bheemdevarapally in Warangal Urban along with police stations at Jangaon, Mahbubabad, Bhupalpally and others, she said.

The BJP leader advised the Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao to emulate Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis who welcomed thousands of farmers who marched towards Mumbai in support of their issues and held discussions with them and offered them food and return journey fares.

Since the TRS government came to power thousands of farmers have committed suicides owing to debts and lack of profitable price. The Marketing Minister T Harish Rao and Agriculture Minister P Srinivas Reddy who makes tall claims on ensuring farmers’ welfare in fact did nothing, Padma complained.

The BJP District General Secretary S Jagadishwar, Girijana Morcha State vice president Nanu Naik, NRI Cell District Convener K Satyanarayana, leaders P Rajendra Prasad, P Upender and Jannu Madhu were among those arrested.
