KU Academic Senate approves Rs 293.41 cr budget
Kakatiya University Academic Senate has approved budget 2018-19 with an outlay of Rs 293.41 crore. The university commerce and business management faculty Prof Ch Rajesham presented the budget, which was unanimously approved by the members at the 33rd Academic Senate meeting chaired by the university Vice-Chancellor Prof R Sayanna here on Wednesday.
Hanamkonda: Kakatiya University Academic Senate has approved budget 2018-19 with an outlay of Rs 293.41 crore. The university commerce and business management faculty Prof Ch Rajesham presented the budget, which was unanimously approved by the members at the 33rd Academic Senate meeting chaired by the university Vice-Chancellor Prof R Sayanna here on Wednesday.
The university’s revenue was estimated to be Rs 267.21 crore and the expenditure to be Rs 293.41 crore. A major chunk of the budget, Rs 148.30 crore would be spent on the salaries of teaching and non-teaching staff while Rs 43.59 crore would be spent by Examination Branch in conducting exams.
Having an opening balance of Rs 43.09 crore there would be a fiscal deficit of Rs 6.93 crore. Rs 87.11 crore would be sanctioned by the State government as grant-in-aid. This year, the government would sanction Rs 25 crore as development budget.
As per the directions of TSCHE, the budget was divided into eight heads. Rs 25 crore would be spent on development works. Allocations were as follows: Rs 1.76 crore for NSS; Rs 15 lakh for internet facilities; Rs 13.70 lakh for University Library; Rs 8.80 lakh for University Health Centre; Rs 7.50 lakh for welfare and recreations activities; Rs 18 lakh for Student Services; Rs 3 lakh for Library Automation; Rs 10 lakh for plantation and beautification of campus; and Rs 20 lakh for laying of roads.
Appraising the Senate on the developments and achievements of the university last year, Prof Sayanna said the University was able to secure ‘A’ grade accreditation by NAAC with enhanced CGPA. It also received the ‘ICT-Excellence Award – 2017’ at Indo-African Summit.
As a result, the university stood at 16th place among the 62 higher educational institutions in India, conferred with higher autonomy by the UGC in March this year. “I am also hopeful of better performance by university in the NIRF-2018 rankings (National Institute Ranking Framework)” Prof Sayanna said.
During the current year, the KU organised 78 seminars, conferences, symposia and workshops along with 12 endowment lectures, besides bringing out 27 publications in the form of books authored by the university faculty, he informed.
The Senate member and former V-C retired professor V Gopal Reddy suggested filling up of vacant teaching posts and review self-finance courses while Bommalla Kattaiah wanted the authorities to check frequent agitations on the campus.
Senate members Vidyavathi, Ampasayya Naveen, P Chander and P Ramesh Reddy, Registrar Prof K Puruthotham, officials M Gowri Shankar, T Rajaiah, T Venkat Ramana, PRO V Krishnamacharya, principals, deans, heads of departments, administrative officers were among those present.
