And what agonises people more than the tinkered and congested roads in the city was the blaring of horns and the thunderous roar of the modified exhaust pipes of bikes, especially those ridden by students and youths.
The advent of new-age bikes that zoom past out of sight within no time not only set the youths agog but also brought innumerable problems to other motorists and pedestrians. As it was not enough, several riders altered the silencers of their bikes so that they release gunshot sound while driving.
This apart, some of the bikes are fitted with horns that not only cause huge noise pollution but also confuse the bypassers and motorists. Some bike horns also trick the motorists and pedestrians that it was a car.Following complaints of such nuisance, the city police have caught around 15 bikers who either altered their silencers or fitted with multi-tone horns.
Speaking to The Hans India, Traffic Additional DCP D Muralidhar said: “We will not spare anyone if they alter vehicles’ specifications be it silencer or horns. We have identified quite a few persons who either modified their vehicles or fitted additional accessories to their bikes and called them up for counselling along with their parents
We let the off with a warning but will take stringent action according to motor vehicle act if they continue towhirr through the streets.” “The onus is on parents before they buy high-speed bikes for their wards. Parents should understand the thin line between love and pampering.
There is no point in ruing after something happens to their children,” Forum for Better Warangal Pulluru Sudhakar said.
In its recent report, the Environment Protection Training and Research Institute (EPTRI) stated that there were 47 vehicles for every 1,000 people in 2005.
It has gone up to 158 per 1,000 by June 2016. This indicates the rapid growth of vehicle numbers in tri-cities of Warangal-Hanamkonda-Kazipet. Of the 5.50 lakh vehicles in Greater Warangal, 4.10 lakh are two-wheelers, it’s learnt.
