Bhupalpally: Punjab Tourism and Local Bodies Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu visited sand reaches on the banks of River Godavari at Kaleshwaram on Thursday.

The Minister, who heads Punjab’s three-member Cabinet sub-committee on illegal mining, has arrived here following his meeting with TSMDC chairman S Subhash Reddy and Industries & Commerce principal secretary Jayesh Ranjan in Hyderabad on Wednesday.

Sidhu, accompanied by a team of senior officials of his State, went around the sand reaches and interacted with local officials. He told the officials that the purpose of his visit is to study management of sand reaches in Telangana and emulate the same in Punjab.

The Minister appreciated the sand mining policy being implemented in Telangana. According to him, Punjab government has been contemplating setting up a state-run corporation to regulate supply and demand of sand and gravel in the State.

He said his government is seriously working to stop illegal mining. In that direction it is decided to visit the states with good mining policy and take into account valuable inputs to prepare a new mining policy in Punjab.
