Of waters and temples: A perfect combo for tourists
Lakes, picturesque landscapes and ancient temples make a perfect combo for those googling for enchanting tourist destinations. There is no dearth of such getaways in the State, especially in the erstwhile Warangal and Karimnagar districts.

To make this summer more exciting and enjoyable, the Telangana State Tourism Development Corporation (TSTDC) has come up with a scintillating package that covers 10 major temples, lakes and boating in River Godavari.
Adding more spice to this, the tourism honchos also included much-talked about Rs 80,500 crore Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP), which as per the government’s claims to provide assured irrigation to nearly 37 lakh acres.
However, construction of KLIP includes components such as barrages, reservoirs, surge pools, tunnels and canals, the pump house, said to be the largest in Asia, coming up at Medigadda and the gigantic motors have generated some kind of hype. Of late, the KLIP worksites have become major
attraction points.
In a bid to capitalise on people’s interest on KLIP, the TSTDC has recently started a weekend trip combining it with the temple tourism. The weekend trip covers Laxmi Narasimha Swamy temple in Yadagirigutta, 1,000 Pillars and Bhadrakali temples in Warangal before heading to pristine lake waters and suspension bridge of Laknavaram. From here the bus heads to Ramappa temple which is competing for UNESCO’s World Heritage Site status, before overnight stay in Kaleshwaram.
After Kaleshwara Mukteeshwara Swamy’s darshan, the tourists will have the glimpse of River Godavari and the construction of pump house at Medigadda.
Later, the tourist contingent heads to Sri Koteswara Siddheshwara Swamy Devasthanam in Koti Lingala, the first capital of the Satavahana dynasty. Here the tourists will be given time for boating, after which they proceed to Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy shrine in Dharmapuri.
On their way back, the package will cover Kondagattu Anjaneya Swamy temple and Sri Raja Rajeshwara Swamy temple in Vemulawada, known as Dakshin Kasi. Last but not least, the final stoppage before the bus returns to Hyderabad, the tourists will have the darshan of Goddess Saraswati at Wargal in Siddipet district.
Speaking to The Hans India, the TSTDC Central Reservation Officer B Mahesh Kumar said: “It’s a perfect combo of temple tourism and one of the biggest irrigation projects in the country. The AC bus which starts at 7 am every Saturday from Hyderabad arrives back on Sunday evening. The Rs 2,299 per adult package only provides transportation and accommodation; the other expenses should be borne by tourists.” Interested can contact 98485 40371 for further details.
Meanwhile, it’s learnt that TSTDC is also planning to offer an Irrigation Tour package covering major components of the KLIP and other projects. The authorities are yet to chalk out the details of the tour.
