Warangal: The Road Transport Authority (RTA) officials organised several awareness programmes and service activities as part of the ongoing Road Safety Week-2018.

Awareness programmes like phone in through FM radio, by distributing pamphlets, bike stickers and counselling to vehicle users at various centres across the district were organised during the last week, informed the Deputy Transport Commissioner (DTC) Ch Shivalingaiah.

The RTA officials have pasted posters on road safety on RTC buses and at bus depots and on private vehicles at Subedari and police headquarters area in Hanamkonda and other places on Friday, he added.

According to Shivalingaiah nearly one lakh people were killed in a year in road accidents while some suffering from life threatening problems such as mental trauma, loss of memory and loss of limbs, in view of that road safety measures assumed importance.

As part of the safety week campaigns were run involving traffic police and TSRTC educating masses especially youth about the dangers of over speed, break speed limit and traffic rules.

The RTA organised a mega blood donation camp at its office premises in association with Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) and about 400 units of blood was collected marking the road safety week.

The DTC Shivalingaiah and the TSRTC regional manager T Surya Kiran inaugurated the blood donation camp. Speaking on the occasion they stressed on the importance of the blood donation which will save lives in medical emergency cases.

The IRCS chairman Dr P Vijaychander Reddy and its State managing committee member EV Srinivasa Rao appreciated the RTA officials for organising the blood donation camp. Healthy persons under the age group of 18 to 58 should come forward to donate blood frequently, they added RTC DMs, Suresh and Arpitha, Motor Vehicle Inspector Ramesh Rathod, Assistant Motor Vehicle Inspectors Sravanthi, Shalini, Swarna Latha, Sai Charan, IRCS doctors Ram Kishan, G Prabhakar Rao and others were present.
