Vadlakonda (Jangaon): Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has made a habit of exceeding people’s expectations, Deputy Chief Minister Kadiam Srihari said here on Wednesday, distributing pattadar passbooks and cheques under Rythu Bandhu Scheme (RBS), aimed at providing a financial assistance of Rs 8,000 per annum for each acre to the farmers.

“The Congress and the BJP which ruled the country for about seven decades had never thought of providing financial assistance to the cultivators,” he said. KCR, who is hellbent on rescuing the crisis-ridden agriculture sector, has been rolling out several farmer-friendly schemes one after the other.

Did Ponnala Laxmaiah, who represented Jangaon constituency and held the portfolio of Irrigation in the Congress government, ever thought of restoring the silted tanks across the region and providing agricultural support to farmers?, he questioned.

Referring to the shortage of fertilisers and power outages, Srihari said that agriculture had become a burden and unprofitable for the farmers during the regime of the Congress.

He said that since the formation of the State, the TRS government has ensured hassle-free supply of seed and fertilisers, besides waiving crop loans. The TRS promised to give 9-hour uninterrupted power supply to farming sector but the government ensured 24-hour power supply, he said.

The government not only tried to empower the farmers but also introduced several welfare schemes for the poor and downtrodden, he said, referring to the pensions, KCR Kit, Kalyana Laxmi and Shadi Mubarak programmes. This apart, the has come up with umpteen number of Gurukul schools that no other State in the country has, he said.

Jangaon MLA Muthireddy Yadagiri Reddy, Legislative Council Whip B Venkateshwarlu, ZP chairperson G Padma, Agro-Industries Development Corporation Chairman Lingampally Kishan Rao and District Collector Vinay Krishna Reddy were among others present.
