Hanamkonda: Task Force police of Warangal commissionerate have arrested three persons, including a couple, in connection with sale of marijuana (ganja).

Commissioner of Police V Ravinder informed here on Wednesday that about 107 kilograms of dry ganja, worth Rs 16.45 lakh, was recovered from the possession of the arrested persons.

The accused were identified as Bejjanki Swathi of Keshavapur in Rayaparthy mandal, now residing at Venkatadrinagar in Warangal, and Ramoju Padma and her husband Ramoju Venkatachary of Kothapalli village in Wardhannapet mandal.

He said that Padma and Swathi happened to be sisters. Swathi used to work as daily wage worker and when she found out that the income was insufficient to meet her financial needs, she along with her sister and brother-in-law planned to sell ganja.

The trio procured ganja from Visakhapatnam and surrounding areas in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh and pack the material in 2 kg pockets to transport to Warangal in trains. After bringing the drug here, they made it into small packets and sell the same at Rs 150 and Rs 200 per packet, he said.

The accused used to store ganja at houses of their relatives in Kothapalli and Keshavapur. They also export the drug to other states at higher rates and made huge money, the Commissioner explained.

On receiving a tip off on the trio selling ganja, the Task Force police have conducted raids on the houses of the accused on Tuesday night and seized 50 pockets of ganja, each weighing about 2.15 kilos.

The Commissioner appreciated ACPs of Task Force and Wardhannapet Venkataramana Reddy and Madhusudhan, special branch ACP Janardhan, inspectors L Ramesh, Karunasagar Reddy, SIs Devender, Upender, Sridhar, Task Force personnel Srinivas Yadav, Kranti Kumar, Srinivas, Mangilal, Srinath and Venkanna for nabbing the ganja sellers.
