Retired teacher sets up students welfare fund at ZPHS in Jangaon

Jangaon: Even as the authorities at many government schools worried over dearth of funds, a government school in the district is able to establish a welfare fund for the benefit of students.
The ZPPSS, Wadlakonda in Jangaon mandal in the district, has now got a permanent students’ welfare fund of Rs 4 lakh. It has become possible with an active initiative of a senior citizen, K Damodar Reddy, a retired government school teacher hailing from Wadlakonda village.
According to the ZPPSS in-charge headmaster Emmadi Laxminarayana, the retired teacher wanted to set up the welfare fund of Rs 4 lakh to help the students at the school and has embarked on the task of pooling up the money three years ago.
Damodar Reddy encouraged many of the villagers, who are staying in and outside the village, to come forward to support the children studying at the school by donating some amount. He along with the villagers came to our school and discussed matter with us, the headmaster told The Hans India.
The retired teacher started gathering the amount by donating Rs 10,000 himself initially. Motivated by his zeal to support the school children, as many as 40 donors contributed Rs 10,000 each. And on Monday the collection of the amount Rs 4 lakh is completed.
Damodar Reddy, accompanied by one of the donors Shiva Kumar Reddy, handed over an amount of Rs 20,000 to the in-charge headmaster Laxminarayana during prayer time of the school, in the presence of teachers, staff and students, taking of the total figure to Rs 4 lakh.
“This is the student’s permanent welfare fund. It will be used to meet the needs and necessities of the students only. The amount collected so far has already been deposited in a bank in a joint account in the name of the school headmaster and Damodar Reddy,” Laxminarayana explained.
‘By using its annual bank interest, we have been donating notebooks, ties, belts, shoes and snacks and supplying pure mineral drinking water too all the school children,’ he added.
While thanking all the 40 donors on behalf of the school, particularly Damodar Reddy for his kind-hearted service to the children, Laxminarayana felt that the initiative by the retired teacher is worth emulating by all in the villages to help students studying in the State-run schools.
The school teachers Ch Rajanarsimha Reddy, K Ashok, Meharunnisa Begum, Md Khuddus, G Yakub Reddy, Maqbul Pasha and K Anjaneyulu also thanked the donors for their kind gesture.
