Warangal: Anti-corruption Bureau (ACB) sleuths have trapped and caught an assistant engineer of R and B department red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 60,000 from a contractor.
The accused, called V Koteshwar Rao, working at deputy executive engineer office, R&B Hanamkonda division, was arrested after he was caught red-handed while receiving the amount at his office on Thursday, informed ACB DSP Kiran Kumar.
According to the ACB official, Koteshwar Rao demanded the bribe to clear a final bill of a culvert work executed by a class-II contractor, M Tirupathi Reddy, at Peddammagadda in Hanamkonda. The accused wanted two per cent of the bill worth Rs 15 lakh to record the work in movement book and clear the bill.
Of the Rs 60,000, Rs 30,000 was meant for the assistant engineer while Rs 15,000 each for deputy engineer and executive engineer as per the version of the accused. ‘The role of the deputy engineer and executive engineer in the case would be verified,’ the ACB DSP said.
A case was booked against Koteshwar Rao and he would be produced before ACB court in Hyderabad. The complainant, Tirupathi Reddy speaking to the press, alleged that executive engineer Laxman Naik and Koteshwar Rao have troubled him a lot and denied clearing the bill if he fails to pay the bribe. Therefore, he approached the ACB, the contractor said.
