Warangal: Rallies and public meetings marked the ‘Universal Brotherhood Day’ that was celebrated on Wednesday commemorating the speech of Swami Vivekananda at Chicago on September 11, 1863. The event was being celebrated as part of 150th birth centenary celebrations of Vivekananda. Large number of students, youth, NCC and NSS volunteers, common people, educationists, political leaders and government officials took part in the programmes that were held across the district on the day.
At the district head quarters a massive public meeting was organised at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium under the aegis of Swami Vivekananda 150th Jayanthi Utsava Committee. The district Collector G Kishan has flagged off a rally from Kakatiya University Arts and Science College.
The Utsava Committee members B Muralidhar and Atma Chaitanyananda, BJP leaders M Dharma Rao, A Ashok Reddy, G Premender Reddy and others led the rally. Speaking on the occasion, the Collector has called upon the youth to follow the teachings of Vivekananda.
He wanted the youth to emulate the precepts taught by Vivekananda and dedicate themselves to build the nation and said ‘The 150 birth centenary celebrations serve as a good occasion for this’. Youth plays a crucial role in nations’ building and that was why Vivekananda laid a special stress on ‘Youth awakening,’ he said.
Speaking on the occasion Muralidhar said that the celebrations were meant to spread Vivekananda ideology among the nations in the world and in particular among the youth. Atma Chaitanyananda opined that the ‘Chicago Speech’ by Vivekananda has made the world to perceive the immensity and greatness of Indian culture and traditions. The objective of conducting the celebrations to rededicate to uphold such values, he added. A similar rally was taken out from Kakatiya University premises where the University College principal Prof. N Rama Swamy, registrar Prof. K Sayulu, NSS coordinator B Suresh Lal and others took part.
