Warangal: Backward Class communities in both Telangana and Seemandhra regions have no proper leaders to guide the members of the communities, said BC Commission former chairman Justice MN Rao. He was speaking after inaugurating two-day national conference titled ‘BC Atmagourava Sabha’ here on Saturday. He stated that the BCs were lagging behind in politics, education and economic progress due to lack of effective leadership, which could bring unity among the community.
‘‘There is an urgent need to give a serious thought to the issue. In fact, no serious effort has been made to build a strong BC leadership in the State after Konda Laxman and Gouthu Lachanna,’’ Mr MN Rao pointed.
The conference is organised by Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Academy of Backward Classs Development and Empowerment (ABCDE) and Kakatiya University BC Teachers Association (KUBTA). MN Rao further said the demand for reservation to economically backward communities is meaningless. The reservations are meant to uplift those who deprived of political and economic opportunities at the hands of upper caste communities. Minister for Backward Communities Welfare Baswaraju Saraiah also stressed on the need for unity among the backward communities. Majority of the voters in the country and in the state are BCs but they were not given their due share in politics and economical development, he added. This happened due to the lack of unity among the community members and that also been affecting the self respect of community members.
Saraiah called upon the BCs to come forward to avail the political opportunities and contest in local body elections which he said would lead to further chances to develop in the field of politics. ‘We should create a fear in the political parties that if they fail to provide enough space for us they would lose the polls’ he added. The conference president Prof. K Murali Manohar presented a report on the status of development of BCs in the state and in the country and highlighted the issues that need to be addressed for the welfare of the community. On Sunday, a ‘BC Declaration’ would be released to press for the protection of the rights of the BCs.
