Warangal: With BJP, in particular its leader Narendra Modi, moving fast in making use of social media to get close to the people and youth, the Congress seems to have opened its eyes and decided to follow its rival. In this connection a zonal level workshop on the use and possibilities of ‘social media’ was held for Congress men here on Sunday. The workshop was the second one in the state followed by the first which was held in Hyderabad.
Five representatives from each Assembly constituency in Khammam, Karimnagar, Adilabad, Nizamabad and Warangal have taken part in the workshop. Notably, the local leaders who spoke have set aside the main topic of ‘social media’ and resorted to their usual rhetoric of showering praises on the party leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.
Union Minister of State for Social Jjustice P Balaram Naik stated that in the 2014 general elections the Congress party would assume the power and Rahul Gandhi would become the Prime Minister. To win the elections, the party cadre should take the welfare measures being implemented by the State and Central governments into the public.
The Information Technology Minister Ponnala Lakshamaiah, highlighted the importance of Social Media
A three-member team of All India Congress Committee (AICC) on social media J Patel, Guarav Kapoor and Nimesh trained about 1000 workers on the role of Social Media and explained the basics of using twitter and Facebook. The workshop was titled ‘winning the digital battle’.
The participants were given handbooks that provide tips on how to publicize UPA’s beneficial schemes before potential voters using the social media tools in the run up to the 2014 polls. It might be noted that AICC social media team headed by the party general secretary and head of the party's communication department Ajay Maken conducted about 75 zonal level workshops for Congressmen throughout the country. It was said that AICC has earmarked Rs 200 crores for their social media campaign. The local Congress unit has recently received four state of the art LCD projectors, computers, scanners, printers and inverters for the purpose. BC Welfare Minister Baswaraju Saraiah, Warangal MP Siricilla Rajaiah, PCC secretary B Prabhakar Reddy, DCC secretary E Venkatram Reddy and youth Congress activists were present.
